Indian High Commission in Colombo is issuing visa for Sri Lankan citizen and foreigners. As there is a high demand from Sri Lankans in getting the Indian Visa, those Sri lankan people who are wishing to obtain a visa must get in to the queue in the early morning and get a token and can submit the visa application the next day.
The visa form can be obtained at the High Commission free of charge, it can be photocopied if want more copies.

When handing over the application form 2 recently taken photographs must be submitted.
Children below the age of 16 must submit one photograph.
First time Interview facing Sri lankan people must bring their
1. NIC
2. Original Birth Certificate or Driving license.
3. Previous passports.
Sri Lankan nationals and the foreigners who are not residing in Sri Lanka continuously for more than 12 months must apply at least 7 days before their planed departure date.
Those who have obtained Visa earlier after facing the interview can hand over their application through travel agents. Those Travel agents may charge for their service additional to the Visa fee.

For those who are applying for a Business Visa Must provide
1. Invitation from the Indian Business or Firm.
2. Sponsor Letter from the Local Company.
3. Sri Lankan Business Registration and necessary Papers.
For those who are applying for a Student Visa
1. Student visa will not be issued for Secondary Level Studies or below.
2. Student visa will not be issued for Theological institutions or Unrecognized Indian institutes.
3. Admission letter from a recognized Institute.
4. Financial arrangement proof for the stay in India.
For those who are applying for a Research Visa must apply directly to the below given address along with his/her Full Bio-Data and 6 copies of synopsis of thesis.

For those who are seeking a Transit Visa must provide a Confirmed ticket for their onward journey.
To get a Conference Visa apply at least 15 days in advance, before the intended departure date, along with the invitation letter from the organizers of the conference/symposium/ seminar.
Organizers of international conference, symposium or seminar must apply to the MHA and MEA well in advance for clearance.
Journalist Visa : For permission to film documentaries in India , approach XP Division of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, New Delhi and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in advance.
Group Visa is available to Groups of 10 persons or more. They must apply for the visa 3 weeks before their intended departure date.
For pilgrims, it is necessary to get a letter from the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Govt. of Sri Lanka and for participation in sports tournaments in India , a confirmation letter from the concerned sports authority of Sri Lanka .
To get an Employment Visa applicant must provide a copy of agreement of employment with the Indian employer for a minimum period of one year.
